On reawakening identities in Europe - I think the backlash against Islam is not straightforwardly identity politics since people are uniting against a particular ideology - which is what I think Islam is. There are people like geert wilders who are happy demonizing anyone who is or looks Muslim and that certainly can be a form of identity politics but macron and scholaf’s stance on Islam and anti semitism isnt ?
Assumed identities are often agenda based like you pointed out: Kamala Harris focusing on her black identity, far right Indian politicians encashing their Hindu identity, etc. Multi-dimensional iIdentities give better representation to socially discriminated classes and minorities; but also encourage them to play the victim card. Did I miss any positives discussed about identity politics? (Like saving Europe after a reawakening of identities submerged under the garb of secularism??)
